Plain Language Summary

⚠️ THE SENSOR IS NOT A LIFE SAFETY DEVICE
The Terrestream indoor air sensor, referred to here as the ‘Sensor’ or ‘Device’, measures indoor air quality for awareness and general informational insights. It does NOT detect smoke, fire, carbon monoxide (CO), radon, or gas leaks. It cannot call 911. Keep required smoke alarms, CO alarms, and any required fire alarm system installed, tested, and maintained. Your local code requires them, and the Sensor does not replace them.
CO2 is not CO. The Sensor measures carbon dioxide, the gas you exhale. It does not measure carbon monoxide, the lethal gas from incomplete combustion. A normal CO2 reading does not mean CO is absent.
In any emergency, call 911 (US) or your local emergency number (Canada). Don’t call Terrestream support.
What the Sensor does (and doesn’t)

Standalone Mode (no Wi-Fi). The screen shows live readings. Nothing is logged. Nothing leaves the Device.

Connected (Free Tier). Wi-Fi on, account created. You get connected monitoring, recent history, basic insights, and access to the mobile app and web dashboard. Free Tier availability and features may change under the Terms. Current feature details are at terrestream.com/legal/tier-features.

Connected (Pro). Paid monthly or annual subscription (price disclosed at enrollment). Adds longer history, expanded insights, family features and cloud-bridged smart-home features, and deeper dashboard tools. The first account to activate a given Device gets a 3-month Pro trial automatically, no credit card required. After the trial, your account falls back to the Free Tier without deleting cloud-stored data the account already generated, subject to the Free Tier feature set. Resold or secondhand Devices have already used the trial and go straight to the Free Tier for the new owner.

AI insights are estimates, not facts. Mold-risk indicators, ventilation suggestions, occupancy estimates, and TVOC readings are model outputs that can be wrong. Get a professional opinion before any health, HVAC, building, or compliance decision.

“Good” does not mean “safe.” A normal reading does not rule out CO, smoke, gas, mold, VOCs, allergens, illness risk, or other hazards the Sensor doesn’t detect. Symptoms, odors, smoke alarms, CO alarms, and official advisories override what the Sensor shows.

Ventilation suggestions are not instructions. The Sensor’s ventilation recommendations are estimates based on outdoor data that may be stale or wrong. Do not ventilate based on the Sensor alone if outdoor air may be unsafe (wildfire smoke, industrial release, ozone event, pesticide use), or if official advisories say otherwise.

Sensors drift and can fail abruptly, sometimes showing “normal” when conditions are not. Significant drift is expected after roughly five years; VOC and NOx sensors degrade earlier. Verify against a reference instrument before relying on data to make decisions.

Don’t use Sensor data as official evidence. Readings, dashboards, screenshots, exports, and annual letters are consumer-grade and not suitable as legal, medical, workplace, school, rental, regulatory, certification, or real-estate evidence without independent professional validation and reference-grade instrumentation.
Money: tiers, returns, warranty

Free Tier. No charge. Real-time monitoring, all states + events + attribution, AI Discovery cards weekly, 90 days of history, annual climate letter, every surface (iOS/Android/Watch/ Web/widgets), multiple homes and devices (subject to fair-use limits). The specific feature set may change subject to TOS §8.4.

Pro Subscription. Paid monthly or annual subscription (price disclosed at enrollment). Adds extended history, smart-feels-like, Wellbeing/Pet lenses, family circle, cloud-bridged smart-home integrations (webhooks, IFTTT, and similar cloud-relay features), climate-tab depth, Air Ghosts + Wrapped, sleep-stage IAQ correlation, returning-home freshness. Local smart-home integrations (Home Assistant and MQTT publishing) are included on the Free Tier and do not require Pro. Cancel a Pro subscription at any time and your account stays on the Free Tier. (Account deletion, dormancy, or our cloud End-of-Life will revert the Device to Standalone Mode, see TOS §8.7.)

3-month Pro trial, no credit card. One trial per Device serial number, automatically applied on the first activation of the Device. We send in-app and email notices at least 7 days before it ends. At expiry, your account steps down to the Free Tier, no charge is initiated, and trial expiry alone does not delete your cloud-stored account data. Resold or secondhand Devices have already used their trial.

Auto-renewal. Only paid Pro Subscriptions auto-renew. Auto-renewal needs your separate, affirmative consent at signup. Annual plans get a reminder at least 15 days before each renewal (60–90 days for Quebec consumers under LPC art. 214.4; for Quebec residents, annual plans renew to a month-to-month indeterminate term you can cancel any time). Cancel a web-shop Pro Subscription via the Click-to-Cancel control in your Web Dashboard; cancel App Store or Google Play subscriptions through the Apple App Store or Google Play subscription manager (Terrestream cannot cancel store-managed subscriptions).

Tier features can change, with notice and a glide path. We can add features to either tier, retire features, or move features between tiers as the product and our cloud economics evolve. If we ever materially reduce the Free Tier, we send you 30 days’ advance notice and ask you to affirmatively re-accept, with a defined grandfathering window for accounts that activated before the announcement. Your privacy rights under the Privacy Policy and the ability to delete your account remain available at no charge regardless of any tier change. Detailed change-procedure protections are in TOS §8.4.

Returns. Amazon purchases: follow Amazon’s policy. Terrestream web shop: 30 days, unused, in original packaging. Dead-on-arrival from any channel: free replacement within 14 days. A restocking fee up to 15% may apply to opened, non-defective web-shop returns where state law allows.

1-year hardware warranty against manufacturing defects. Repair or replacement only. Sensor drift, normal wear, misuse, water damage, and unauthorized modification are not covered.

No SLA. We don’t promise uptime or owe service credits for outages.
Privacy
We collect your account info, sensor readings (Telemetry), and app/dashboard usage. The Mobile App may use your phone camera once for QR-code setup; nothing is retained.

We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising (the language CCPA and similar laws use). We use a privacy- preserving Google Analytics configuration for product analytics; we do not run advertising cookies or engage in cross-site tracking for ad targeting. We create and use deidentified or aggregate data after removing direct identifiers and applying safeguards described in the Privacy Policy. We may use it for research, product improvement, and limited third-party research or product-development purposes. Recipient categories are described in the Privacy Policy §P6. This continues after you delete your account. Washington-resident health-related inferences are excluded from commercial licensing.

Schools, daycares, and shared spaces. If you deploy the Sensor in a rental, workplace, school, daycare, healthcare facility, or other space with non-owner occupants, you are responsible for any required notice and consent. Schools and daycares need separate compliance arrangements before combining occupancy estimates with student records.

If you delete your account, your Telemetry remains downloadable for 30 days, then is removed from active services and permanently deleted from backups within 90 days as backup rotations cycle through. Pro cancellation alone does not trigger this; your account continues on the Free Tier.

What you agree to do

Keep your Wi-Fi secure (WPA2 or WPA3, non-default password). Avoid unsecured public networks.

Use a strong, unique password on your Terrestream account. Turn on multi-factor authentication.

Install firmware updates within 30 days of notice. Skipping critical security updates can void warranty and liability protections.

Don’t tamper with firmware or hardware. Tampering voids the warranty. If we can’t verify your Device’s firmware integrity, we may remotely disable cloud access; we’ll notify you and give you a chance to cure, except in a security emergency.

Don’t use the Sensor to replace certified life-safety equipment, run safety-critical automation, or support regulatory submissions.

Report security issues to terrestream.com/contact?dept=security. Good-faith security research is welcome under our policy at terrestream.com/security.
Disputes: arbitration, with a 30-day opt-out
If we disagree, the Terms require binding individual arbitration (AAA Consumer Rules, seated in Wilmington, Delaware, or your home county for claims under $75,000). No class actions, no jury trial except where prohibited by applicable law or as noted below.
You can opt out within 30 days of first activating the Device or creating an account by contacting us via terrestream.com/contact?dept=arbitration. Opting out leaves every other Term in place.
Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia residents: Provincial law overrides; disputes go to your respective provincial courts and class proceedings are preserved.
Small-claims court is allowed where the claim fits the court’s limits and stays individual. Either of us can also go to court for intellectual property, security, bodily-injury, or public-injunctive (McGill) claims.
When the Terms change
For material changes to arbitration, liability, fees, data practices, or the life-safety disclaimer, we give 30 days’ advance notice by email and in-app, and we ask you to affirmatively re-accept before you can keep using Connected-Mode features. If you don’t re-accept, the Device falls back to Standalone Mode under the prior Terms, and you can cancel any paid Pro subscription.
The 3-month Pro trial does not auto-charge; no credit card is collected. We send in-app and email notices at least 7 days before your trial ends so you can choose to upgrade to paid Pro or let the account fall back to the Free Tier. You can cancel a paid web-shop Pro subscription at any time using the Click-to-Cancel control in your Web Dashboard; App Store or Google Play subscriptions are canceled through the relevant store’s subscription manager. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle, and your account stays on the Free Tier.
